The Bridgeport Bluefish of the independent Atlantic League announced during the week that it has inked former Staten Island Yankee and Major Leaguer Danny Burawa to a contact for the 2017 season.
Burawa, a local hurler from Riverhead, Long Island, tallied a 0-0 record in seven innings of work in six games with a 7.71 ERA with Staten Island of the New York-Penn League (NYPL) in 2010.
The six-foot-three, 220-pound right-hander improved the following season with Charleston and Tampa in the New York Yankees’ system, posting a combined 5-4 record with a 3.64 ERA in 84 innings in 39 contests.
In addition, the former twelfth round selection of the Yankees in the 2010 MLB amateur draft recorded a solid 66 whiffs to 24 walks in 2011.
Burawa spent a total of five seasons in the Yankees’ organization, making his Major League debut on June 21st, 2015.
That same campaign, he also spent time with the Atlanta Braves’ big league club. In 13 career MLB games, Burawa struck out 11 batters in 13.0 innings. In 210 career minor league games, the former St. John’s University product sported 18 wins with a 3.74 ERA and 298 strikeouts in 317.2 innings of work.
Last year, Burawa began the 2016 baseball year in the Atlanta Braves’ farm system, playing with Triple-A Gwinnett of the International League (IL) and Double-A Mississippi of the Southern League (SL).
Midway through the season, he joined the independent Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League. In 17.2 innings across 22 tilts with the Ducks, he registered a 5.09 ERA and K’d 17 hitters.
