Mets First-Rounder David Peterson Picks Up First Win of Season, Pro Career in 8-4 Columbia Fireflies’ Win Over Greenville

David Peterson, the New York Mets 2017 first round pick, picks up first pro win.

Last season, lefty David Peterson only pitched 3.2 innings with the short-season Brooklyn Cyclones of the New York Penn-League due to a toe injury, according to Baseball America. This year, a slight knee injury in spring training slowed Peterson’s progress.

But Peterson (1-0) rebounded Wednesday night, allowing just one run on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six frames in the Columbia Fireflies’ 8-4 victory over the Greenville Drive (Red Sox) at Fluor Field in a South Atlantic League tilt 

It was the 22-year-old New York Mets 2017 first round selection’s season debut, and the former Cyclone helped the Fireflies complete a three-game sweep of Greenville.

Outfielder Quinn Brodey, another ex-Cyclone, smacked two home runs in the game: A solo shot to center field in the eighth, and he followed that up with a two-run, opposite field dinger over the Green Monster in the ninth to extend Columbia’s lead to 8-4.
