Columbia Fireflies pitcher David Peterson gave New York Mets fans a glimpse of a bright future, as he whiffed eight batters over seven scoreless innings.
As good as Peterson (1-0) pitched, the Fireflies still fell, 5-1, in ten frames to the Lakewood BlueClaws (Phillies) Monday afternoon at Spirit Communications Park in a South Atlantic League (SAL) game.
The Mets 2017 first round draft pick and former Brooklyn Cyclone faced just one batter over the minimum in those seven brilliant innings and dropped his ERA to 2.28 (four starts, 23.2 innings) in the process.
Note: Jeremy Vasquez’s 29-game on-base streak came to a halt on Monday when the outfielder finished 0-for-4 at the plate.
