Brooklyn Cyclones outfielder Ross Adolph earned the team’s 2018 Sterling Award, the honor given to the Most Valuable Player at each minor league level, the New York Mets announced on Wednesday.
After the Mets picked Adolph in the 12th round of the 2018 MLB draft, Adolph went on to enjoy a solid first professional baseball season. He batted .276 (64-232) with nine doubles, 12 triples, seven home runs and 35 RBI in 232 at-bats across 61 games with the Cyclones, New York’s short-season Single-A New York-Penn (NYPL) affiliate.
“Thank you @BKCyclones for a great year,” Adolph Tweeted yesterday. “Honored to be the recipient of the Cyclones Sterling Award.”
The 6-foot-one-inch, 203-pound Ohio native’s 12 two-baggers set a Brooklyn franchise record and led the NYPL as well.
In addition, the University of Toledo product was third in the NYPL with a .857 OPS, third in slugging percentage (.509), tied for third with 47 runs scored, tied for eighth with 14 stolen bases and 11th in RBI.
The 21-year old NYPL All-Star led the Cyclones in home runs, RBI, total bases (118) and stolen bases (14), too.
