The New York Mets will get a measure of reinforcement, as they are set to promote righty Walker Lockett to take the place of flamethrower Noah Syndergaard — who’s on the injured list — according to Mike Puma of the New York Post (via Twitter). The corresponding roster move isn’t yet known.
Lockett, 25, reportedly will make his Mets debut Thursday against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
After missing the first six weeks of the 2019 campaign due to a right arm injury, Lockett has been solid, posting a 3.28 ERA in four appearances with Triple-A Syracuse.
New York obtained Lockett from the Cleveland Indians in a trade for catcher Kevin Plawecki, a former number one draft pick with New York and ex-Brooklyn Cyclone.
A former fourth-round pick of the San Diego Padres in the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft, the Jacksonville, Florida, native made his Big League debut on June 1, 2018, with the same team.
