Mets Buy Contract of Righty Nick Rumbelow of the Sugarland Skeeters

In an effort to bolster their minor league pitching depth, the New York Mets purchased the contract of right-hander Nick Rumbelow from the Sugar Land Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB), the Skeeters announced today.  

Rumbelow will be joining the Mets’ Triple-A Syracuse, according to the ALPB on Facebook. 

Rumbelow, 27, has posted a 3-0 record with a 0.81 ERA and seven saves in 22 appearances with the Skeeters, striking out 31 batters in 22.1 innings pitched this season. Rumbelow was tied for ninth in the Atlantic League with seven saves and kept opponents in check with a .203 average against him.

Before that, in 2019, the Bullard, Texas, native made three relief appearances at the Major League Baseball (MLB) level and went 3-2 with an 8.17 ERA in 19 games (25.1 IP) with Triple-A Tacoma of the Pacific Coast League (PCL).

Rumbelow owns three seasons of MLB experience, pitching with the New York Yankees (2015) and the Seattle Mariners (2018-19). He’s gone 1-1 with a 5.97 ERA in 33 contests in “The Show,” whiffing 33 batters to 12 walks in 34.2 frames.

The six-foot, 190-pounder made his MLB debut on June 23, 2015, against the Philadelphia Phillies and picked up his first Major League strikeout against Cameron Rupp in pinstripes. 

A seventh-round selection of the Yankees in the 2013 MLB Draft out of Louisiana State University, Rumbelow spent his first season of professional baseball with the short-season Single-A Staten Island Yankees of the New York-Penn League (NYPL). There, he posted a 2-2 mark with a 2.35 ERA in 23 innings pitched in 19 tilts. 

Overall at the affiliated minor league level, he’s gone 18-10 with a 3.27 ERA and 31 saves in 160 games, fanning 251 batters across 220.1 innings pitched.
