Former Major Leaguer Brandon Phillips was one of the most accomplished baseball players during his 17-year MLB career. He captured four Gold Gloves, a Silver Slugger award, made three All-Star teams, and won a World Series Championship with the Boston Red Sox in 2018.
But now, Phillips, 39, has switched gears and entered the business side of the game, becoming the newest member of the Lexington Legends’ (Atlantic League) ownership group.
Phillips is grateful for the chance to be part of the Legends’ prestigious ownership group. And said he learned so much from Andy Shea, Lexington’s President and CEO, that it motivated him to tackle the business world.
The former infielder noted that he will draw from his winning ways to help better the organization and the Lexington area at large while strengthening his business acumen.
“I’m really honored for this opportunity to become part owner of the Lexington Legends,” Phillips said in a press release. “I’ve got so much to give to this game. Last year, working with Andy showed me how to run a business and that became one of my goals. I know what it takes to win and for me to be able to build my portfolio off the field is a blessing. I love this city of Lexington and the people of the Tri-State community.”
Shea said that Phillips’ amazing character, family values, and playing success and love for the sport meshes well with the Legends organization.
“Everyone knows Brandon for his all-star games, gold gloves, and the passion he has on the field, Shea said. “What some people may not know is that Brandon is also an amazing father who lives life with a family-first mindset and has an incredible baseball and business network. This all fits perfectly with the Lexington Legends.”
