Pair of A.P. Randolph Football Players-Nurse, Calderon-Commit to Lincoln, Monroe, Respectively


A. Philip Randolph quarterback Nathenial Nurse and running back/linebacker Edison Calderon over the past two days have verbally committed to Division II Lincoln University (Pa.) and JUCO Monroe College football programs, respectively, per Tweets from both student-athletes.

Edison Calderon commits to Monroe College football, while Nate Nurse is headed to Lincoln Lions football.

Nurse helped lead the Cougars to a 2022 PSAL B Conference championship and a trip to the finals in 2021.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound gifted athlete completed 25 of 36 passes for 737 yards and 10 touchdowns in the 2022 regular season while making good on 11 of 18 attempts for 215 yards and four scores in the playoffs. He also rushed for 154 yards on 16 carries with five touchdowns during the regular season and added 63 yards while hitting paydirt four times in the postseason.

Nurse also received an offer from Division III Keystone College football program.

Calderon made 16 tackles and recovered a fumble in six regular season and three playoff contests in 2022, per PSAL.org.

Nurse and Calderon join other PSAL players committed to college football programs, such as Saiquan Morris (LIC/Monroe), Zen Fuiaxis (LIC/Maritime), Mike Marra (New Dorp/Western Connecticut), Shane Gallagher (New Dorp/Wagner), Saadiq Simpkins (Bayside/Pace), among others.

The Lions posted a 2-7 record and went 1-6 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) conference, while the Mustangs put up a 3-5 mark and finished 0-2 in conference play.
