Class of 2023 Hauppauge High School and NJ Intensity 18U KOD’s softball catcher/outfielder Stefania Abruscato earned the 2023 NY State Gatorade Player of the Year (GPY) award, yesterday she Tweeted.
The University of Missouri softball commit laced .655 with nine homeruns, 39 runs scored and 15 stolen bases this past season. Additionally, the 5-foot-seven Abruscato, a three-sport athlete (basketball and soccer), will play for the USA Junior Womens’ National Softball Team this summer.
The GPY award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Abruscato as New York’s best high school softball player.
