After being a part of four college basketball programs, Bronx native Jose Perez is leaving West Virginia and entering the transfer portal, per today’s Tweets from Joe Tipton and VerbalCommits.com.
Perez is departing West Virginia after not playing a game for the Mountaineers. He joined the program last offseason as a transfer from Manhattan.
Perez had hope he would receive a waiver that would permit him to play. But the NCAA denied the waiver. Now, he is leaving West Virginia after head coach Bob Huggins resigned in June.
Perez, who attended Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut, averaged 18.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game with Manhattan in the 2021-22 campaign and garnered All-MAAC recognition. He averaged 3.1 ppg at Marquette in 2020-21, then 15.15 points in his first two college hoops seasons with Gardner-Webb.
