The Staten Island FerryHawks of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB) have signed free agent left-handed hitting infielder/outfielder Yoshi Tsutsugo, today the team Tweeted.
Tsutsugo last played in MLB in 2022 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, hitting .171 with two home runs and 19 RBI in 170 at-bats in 50 games.
The 31-year-old spent 10 seasons in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), Japan’s highest level of baseball, before signing with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2019.
In the NPB, Tsutsugo displayed fantastic power over 10 seasons with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars, as he totaled 205 career dingers and became the youngest player in BayStars franchise history to reach the 100, 150, and 200 home run marks, per the FerryHawks.
Tsutsugo is the designated hitter and batting eight for Staten Island in tonight’s game against the York Revolution at Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) Community Park.
