Johah Tong showed some flashes of solidness with the rookie-level Florida Complex League (FCL) Mets, enough so that New York yesterday promoted him to the Single-A St. Lucie Mets of the Florida State League.
This season, though Tong posted a 6.39 ERA with the Mets, he had a 42.4 percent strikeout rate (12.2 innings, 25 strikeouts) — 12th among 3,600+ MiLB pitchers with 50+ Batters Faced (BF) — was in 95th percentile Called Strikes, plus Whiffs (CSW) rate and produced an 87th percentile groundball rate, according to the FCL Mets Twitter post.
After selecting right-handed pitcher Jonah Tong in the seventh round, 209th overall, in 2022 MLB Draft out of Georgia Premier Academy in Statesboro, Georgia, the New York Mets signed the 20-year-old Canadian.
Tong also had a stint with the Fredric Keys of the Major League Baseball Draft League in 2022.
