The spirit of hip hop group sensation Wu-Tang Clan is coming to Staten Island University Hospital Community Park, home of the Atlantic League’s Staten Island FerryHawks baseball team, Wednesday, September 13th at 6:30 p.m., for “Shaolin Hawks Night.”
In collaboration with the Wu-Tang Clan, this one-of-a-kind game night will benefit the Children’s Literacy Society (CLS) and the youth of nearby communities, providing supplemental resources/access for Staten Island/New York City public school children in need of educational exposure and experiences they might not otherwise get.
A portion of every ticket sold through the following link will directly benefit the CLS: https://fevogm.com/event/CLS.
New York-born and bred, the Wu-Tang Clan took the Hip-Hop world by storm when they burst onto the scene in the 1990s. The Grammy-nominated group, which HOT 97 recently recognized as the first recipient of the “Hip Hop Impact” award, flaunts an extensive discography that has influenced generations of musicians. Having several group members hailing from Staten Island, this event is set to be a much anticipated homecoming for Wu-Tang and a way to give back to their hometown community.
With Wu-Tang continually referring to Staten Island as “Shaolin,” the FerryHawks will transform into the Shaolin Hawks for this special night. FerryHawks players will sport exclusive black and yellow, Wu-Tang-inspired jerseys that will then be auctioned off to benefit the Children’s Literacy Society. The iconic group, along with Nas, is currently on its 2023 N.Y. State of Mind Tour, with stops at Madison Square Garden (Sept 15) and Barclays Center (Sept 27) lined up this month.
This follows the 2022 edition of the N.Y. State of Mind Tour run that hit over 25 cities. Wu-Tang Clan mastermind Robert Diggs, best known as RZA, among several other pseudonyms, and one of hip-hop’s most revered, influential producers, will also present a 30th Anniversary rendition of 36 Chambers at Gramercy Theatre in New York City on November 7, 8, and 9, 2023. With the group’s classic 1993 debut, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), RZA established their widely imitated core sound, consisting of stark, booming beats and chilling samples (heavily drawing from vintage soul records as well as kung fu movies).
