Team Melious Lightning head coach Dan Melious always says of New Dorp High School and Lighting’s guard Jordanna Schrecker that she can do it all on the basketball court.
One of those things is scoring, as Schrecker, a junior, drained her 1000th-career high school point in a 68-39 New Dorp (1-0, 4-1) win over Tottenville last night at home.
“I’m so happy for her 1000 point,” Melious gushed of Shrecker’s accomplishment. “I know her goal is try to make the Barclays Center (championship) game this year. She cares more about team success, and that’s what makes her even more special.
“She puts in the work in the gym and on the court,” he added. “Her and I have been outside shooting in August or January, even at AAU tourneys. She just loves to work, and her scoring 1000 points is a byproduct of her work.”
Schrecker. who holds over 20 Division I college basketball offers, according to her AAU coach, totaled 24 points with 10 rebounds in the PSAL’s Staten Island league opening game victory.
Schrecker and the Central Cougars return to action Saturday at 10:30 a.m. against Longwood Prep in the NYG Hoops’ Slinky High School Showcase at Harry S. Truman High School in the Bronx.
