New York and New Jersey college basketball programs took to the hardwood in recent play. Here is how the action shook out in four games for four area programs.
Division III Brooklyn College Women’s basketball squad beat John Jay, 74-60, Friday at home in CUNY conference play to move to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in its division.
Guard Alina Estrella, a former standout player for James Madison High School in Brooklyn, where she helped the team to three straight PSAL titles, led the Bulldogs’ offensive and all scorers with 21 points. Seniors and twin sisters Ericka and Sarah James knocked down 17 and 11 points, respectively. Sarah added 12 rebounds in her double-double performance.
The D3 Union College Owls Women’s (N.J.) basketball team (JUCO) is off and running, as they picked up their sixth consecutive victory after dominating Essex County College, 129-21, last night at home.
The D3 Drew University Men’s (N.J.) basketball team improved to 6-0 after downing Moravian University, 82-78, in its Landmark Conference opener Thursday on the road.
Monroe Township High School alum and Ranger senior guard Andrew Turco drained a team-best 17 points while forward David Musial, formerly of Don Bosco Prep, contributed 15 points in the win.
New Jersey’s D3 Saint Elizabeth University Men’s (2-4 overall, 1-0 United East Skye Division) basketball team defeated Keystone College, 72-63, Thursday at home.
Junior Tye-Rell Monroe scored a team-high19 points and added eight rebounds and two blocks, and junior guard Jonathan Ramos dropped in 16 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists in the victory. Guard/forward Pierre Harden tailed 13 points, seven boards and six helpers.
