The Cleburne Railroaders have re-signed right-handed relief pitcher Luke Boyd to a contract for the upcoming 2024 independent American Assocation campaign, today the team has announced on X.
Boyd, 26, posted a 4.26 ERA with a save in 12.2 innings of work in 11 games, and went 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in 21.0 innings in 13 tilts with the Lake Elsinore Storm (Single-A, San Diego Padres) last season.
Boyd spent three years in the San Padres minor league system, going 3-5 with .435 ERA, 59 strikeouts and four saves in 60.0 frames in 54 contests. He reached as high as High-A twice (2021-22) with the Fort Wayne TinCaps.
First, the Los Angeles Angels chose Boyd in the 38th round of the 2019 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Baylor University (Waco, Texas), and then San Diego Padres in the 17th round of the 2021 MLB Draft from the same college.
