Right-handed sophomore pitcher/outfielder Matthew Mackenzie of Colby Community College baseball has verbally committed to Division I Niagara University baseball in Lewiston, New York, yesterday he announced on X.
The 6-foot-3, 175-pound Vauxhall High School alum’s fastball sits around 90-92 MPH, with a slider (81-83 MPH), and curveball that keeps hitters off balance at 77-79 MPH. Mackenzie’s changeup is thrown at the same speed as his slider but is a different-look pitch for him.
Mackenzie made 13 appearances — six game starts– with 20 strikeouts, and a 1.91 WHIP along with a 7.91 ERA.
Moreover, the Vaughan, Nova Scotia, Canadian, is a very good student who holds a 3.6 GPA.
The Purple Eagles posted a 24-22-1 overall record and went 14-10 in Metro Athletic Assocation Conference (MAAC) play last season.
