Vandegrift High School (Austin, Texas) Freestyle heavyweight state champion Jacob Henry has verbally committed to the Division I University of Oklahoma wrestling program, today he announced via X.
Henry, a 6-foot-plus, 275-pound senior, is the son of two-time USA Olympic powerlifter and WWE Hall of Fame professional wrestler, Mark Henry, who also held the title as World’s Strongest Man.
Additionally, he is currently a commentator/analyst, coach, and talent scout for All Elite Wrestling.
While Jacob Henry has large shoes to fill, he is carving out an impressive resume for himself thus far. He is also a two-time 6A Wrestling State Qualifier and a two-time 6A District Wrestling Heavyweight Champion.
In addition to being a standout heavyweight wrestling champion, the younger Henry starred as an offensive lineman on Vandegrift High School, where he garnered a number of Division I college football offers, according to his dad.
Mark Henry wrote on SportsManor.com: “He’s a good amateur wrestler and has offers from Wisconsin, Oklahoma, big Division I schools, same thing for football. He’s better than I was at that age…He wants to wrestle.”
The Sooners are 5-5 overall and 2-4 in Big 12 Conference action thus far this season.
