Gary SouthShore RailCats Ink Ex-Yankee Farmhand Jackson Valera


The Gary SouthShore RailCats have signed infielder Jackson Valera, a former New York Yankees minor leaguer, for the upcoming 2024 independent American Assocation campaign, the league wrote on X.

The Venezuela native returns to the RailCats after clubbing .293 with three dingers and 45 RBI in 64 games for Gary SouthShore in 2023. He also suited up for the Lexington Counter Clocks (Atlantic League) and Sussex County Miners (Frontier League), launching two home runs and driving in nine runs in 22 tilts between both stops in the same season.

Valera, 31, spent six years in the Yankees’ system, batting .247 with six longballs,100 RBI and 33 doubles in 789 at-bats in 222 contests.

Additionally, Valera has played parts of five seasons of winter ball in the Venezuelan Winter League.
