Former Detroit Tiger pitcher Jairo Labourt has been signed by the Staten Island FerryHawks of the independent Atlantic League for the upcoming 2024 season, today the team announced via X.
Labourt last pitched with the Chicago White Sox’s Dominican Summer League affiliate in 2018, going 0-2 with 4.76 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work in five games.
The 29-year-old lefty performed well in the Tigers’ minor league system, recording 8.9 strikeouts per nine innings before the team called him up to the Majors on September 1, 2017. Labourt registered a 4.50 ERA with four whiffs in six frames in six contests with Detroit.
Staten Island kicks off the Atlantic League season on Thursday, April 25th at 6:35 p.m. against host Charleston Dirty Birds.
