With several Division I college basketball programs vying for her hardwood services, New Dorp High School and Team Lightning Melious junior guard Jordanna Schrecker has committed to Sacred Heart University Women’s basketball, today she wrote on X.
Schrecker has helped guide New Dorp to a 20-1 regular season overall record. The Staten Island native has led the Central Cougars with 21.15 points, 9.23 rebounds and 6.92 assists per game in 13 contests.
Team Lightning Melious head coach Dan Melious could not share enough positives about his star player, going as far as saying she is like family member to him, and a girl who practices and plays the game the right way.
“To me, Jordanna is very special. She’s one of my daughter’s best friend’s. It’s like a family-type of relationship,” Melious said. “I have had for her three plus years in AAU. She’s works hard, she’s humble and competitive.”
But he said he made sure to stress that the scholarship is just the first leg of the journey, with a lot of work to be completed.
“The job’s not done yet,” he said. “I told her, ‘Just don’t be content to get a scholarship. Prove you belong. The work is just beginning.'”
Sacred Heart is 16-9 overall and 10-1 in Northeast Conference (NEC) action thus far this season.
