Willie Escala Returns to Sussex Miners Fold for Third Season


Today, infielder Willie Escala reupped with the Sussex County Miners for the upcoming 2024 Frontier League campaign, the team announced via X.

Willie Escala is back for 2024.

Escala, 25, batted .285 with four homeruns, 42 RBI, 10 doubles, a slugging percentage of .368 and 20 stolen bases in 340 at-bats in 92 games in 2023.

He played his first season in New Jersey with the Miners in 2022, going yard once with eight RBI, two doubles and three base thefts in 65 at-bats in 25 contests.

Escala spent five years of college baseball, suiting up with Miami, Barry and Miami of Ohio Universities, hitting a combined .274 with six longballs and 59 RBI in 636 at-bats in 194 contests.

Sussex County kicks off the 2024 campaign on Friday, May 10th at 7:05 p.m. against the Trois-Riveires Aigles at Skylands Stadium in Augusta, New Jersey.
