Chatham Native Maddie Hartnett Sparks Scranton Hoops to Landmark Title

Straight out of Chatham, New Jersey, senior Maddie Hartnett ignited the University of Scranton Women’s basketball team with a career-high 20 points in its 57-48 victory over top-seeded Catholic University Cardinals (25-2) in the Landmark Conference Championship game Saturday afternoon at Franny Murray Court in Washington, D.C.

Additionally, the 5-foot-8 guard picked up the tournament MVP accolade for the second time in her career after she previously accomplished the feat as a freshman in 2021.

Moreover, the win automatically earns the second-seeded Royals the right to play in the NCAA Division III Tournament, with the field of 64 to be announced in a live selection show on NCAA.com Monday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.

Scranton guard Hannah Angelini chipped in with nine points, four assists and three rebounds.

Keegan Douglas and Anna Scoblick formed a two-headed monster for the Cardinals with 18 points each, combining for 36 of the Cardinals’ 48 points. Of course, it was not enough to overtake the Royals in the end.
