Long Island Ducks Re-Ink Hometown Righty Sam Kessler


Mount Sinai, Long Island, New York, native and relief pitcher Sam Kessler has re-signed with the Atlantic League’s Long Island Ducks, today the team announced via X.

The 26-year-old righty permitted just two earned runs in 6.2 innings of work in eight appearances, good for a 2.70 ERA with the Ducks last season.

“Sam did a nice job out of the bullpen for us last year,” Ducks Manager Lew Ford said on LIDucks.com. “We are excited to have him back pitching for his hometown team.”

The former Detroit Tigers prospect enters his fourth campaign in professional baseball after attended West Virginia University, where he posted a 9-5 record with a 2.88 ERA in three years at the school.

Kessler also starred on Mount Sinai High School’s baseball team, where he was named to the 2014 Perfect Game All-Tournament Team after firing a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts.

Additionally, he earned Perfect Game Underclass High Honorable Mention in 2015.
