The University of Scranton Women’s basketball team (28-2) used a balanced scoring attack to upend Johns Hopkins (26-4), 65-53, in NCAA Division III Sweet 16 action on Friday evening at the Paulson Center in New York City.
Senior Maddy Ryan drained a game high 20 points with 10 rebounds and two blocks, while sophomore Kaci Kranson contributed 15 points and nine boards.
Additionally, Chatham, New Jersey’s Maddie Hartnett, a senior, added 12 points and five rebounds in the victory. It was her sixth consecutive tilt in which she scored in double figures. Sophomore Kaeli Romanowski recorded five points, handed out a season-best eight assists, made five steals and grabbed three boards.
The Royals now advance to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2019 and the 16th time in program history, as they square off against host NYU for a a shot to play in the Final Four on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
