Chatham High School Cougars Swim to Southern II Conference Honors


Both Chatham High School (N.J.) swim teams, boy’s and girl’s, have racked up several Southern II Division NJAC All Conference honors after each squad captured NJSIAA’s Group B State Tournament titles.

For the girl’s (13-0), the quartet of freshman Avery Loock, senior Alison Barton, and sophomores Kiera Harkins and Gloria Jeng were named to the first team conference 200-yard medley relay squad.

Also, Harkins earned first team 200-yard freestyle recognition, while Barton picked up first team acknowledgment in the 200-yard individual medley race.

Additionally, Jeng (50-yard freestyle) and sophomore Madeline Crawford (100-yard freestyle) made first team in both aforementioned disciplines.

Sophomore Sarah Thomas, Barton, Crawford and Harkins made the 200-yard freestyle relay first team, while Crawford, Loock, Barton and Harkins made up the first team 400-yard relay squad.

As for second team recognition, junior Molly Newman earned the honor for the 200-yard freestyle race. Thomas (200-yard individual medley) and Loock (100-yard backstroke) were dubbed second team honorees for their respective race accomplishments.

Sophomore Samanatha Tornberg rounded out the list with an honorable mention accolade.

As for the boy’s (14-0), the squad made up of junior Ryan O’Day, senior and West Point commit Jack Bigham, junior and Duke commit Charlie Kulp and senior Chip Powers earned the 200-yard medley first team honor.

O’Day (200-yard individual medley), Charlie Kulp (100-yard freestyle), Jack Kulp (500-yard freestyle) and Bigham (100-yard breaststroke) all picked up first team recognitions.

Senior Simon Stryszak earned the 200-yard freestyle second team accolade. The squads of junior Ransom Chang, Powers, Bigham and Charlie Kulp captured the 200-yard freestyle second team award, while O’Day, Stryszak, and Jack and Charlie Kulp took home the 400-yard freestyle recognition.

Lastly, Powers earned the Honorable Mention Southern II Division conference accolade.
