Staten Island Dances for Wagner College Hoops as Seahawks Make NCAA March Madness

This 2024 NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament will have a Staten Island team dancing (sort of), as sixteen-seeded Wagner College will square off against No. 16 Howard University (18-16, 9-5 MEAC) in their play-in game in Dayton, Ohio, at UD Arena Tuesday, March 19 at 6:40 p.m.

Wagner (16-15) earned entry into March Madness play-in contest after winning three consecutive road games, including a 54-47 Northeast Conference (NEC) finals victory over No. 2 Merrimack en route to the NEC title. It is the Seahawks’ first appearance in “The Dance” in over 20 years.

Former Brooklyn Collegiate junior guard Tahron Allen drained a team-best 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while another junior guard, Melvin Council, Jr., added 12 points and four boards in the title clinching win. Sophomore forward Keyontae Lewis contributed eight points and 12 rebounds.
