Chatham Native, Delbarton’s Michael Van Raaphorst Commits to Georgetown Hoops


Delbarton School (N. J.) 6-foot-4 senior shooting guard Michael Van Raaphorst is headed to the nation’s capital, as he has verbally committed to Division I Georgetown Men’s basketball as a preferred walk-on, today he announced via X.

A preferred walk-on is a non-scholarship player who is guaranteed a spot on the team’s roster the next season.

Van Raaphorst, a Chatham, N.J., native, led the Green Wave with 428 points (15.9 points per game) and 133 rebounds in 27 contests in the 2023-24 campaign. Defensively, the two-sport (football) hard working student-athlete also had nine blocks and made 24 steals.

A receiver, Van Raaphorst caught 19 passes for 183 yards and one touchdown on the gridiron.

Additionally, Van Raaphorst sports a 4.1 GPA.

The Hoyas posted a 9-23 record and went 2-18 in Big East action this past season.
