Long Island Ducks Sign Five Pitchers, 2 with MLB Experience

In just the span of two days, the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League have added five solid pitchers, two of which have MLB experience (Daniel Corcino and Chris Ellis) and three (Trevor Bettencourt, Sam Delaplane and Emilio Marquez) with Triple A time, the team announced via X on Wednesday and Thursday.

“Both Daniel and Chris have a wealth of experience and have reached the game’s highest level,” Ducks Manager Lew Ford said on LIDucks.com. “We look forward to having their veteran presence on our pitching staff.”

Bettencourt, a 29-year-old righty, split the 2023 season with Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City (Los Angeles Dodgers), making 43 appearances (one start) while posting a 5-1 record between the two stops.

The right-handed Delaplane, 29, spent 2023 with three minor league teams in the San Franciso Giants organization, posting a 5-4 record with a 4.50 ERA in 45.2 innings of work in 32 games.

Marquez, a southpaw, also pitched for three different teams last year, all of which were in the Kansas City Royals organization. The 25-year-old went 2-0 with a 4.41 ERA in 32.2 frames in 22 contests.

The 33-year-old Corcino spent the past two campaigns in the Atlantic League with Lexington, making 24 starts in 2022 and nine appearances (eight starts) in 2023.

As for his MLB experience, Corcino, a righty, spent parts of two seasons with the Cincinnati Reds (2014) and Dodgers (2018), recording a 0-2 mark with a 3.97 ERA in 22.2 innings.

Ellis’ MLB service time includes stops with the Kansas City Royals (2019), Tampa Bay Rays (2021) and Baltimore Orioles (2021-22). Ellis, a 31-year-old righty, combined to make 10 appearances (eight starts), going 1-0 with a 3.12 ERA and 25 strikeouts over 34.2 innings between the three clubs.
