The Long Island Ducks have signed first baseman Frank Schwindel and infielder Manuel Geraldo for the upcoming 2024 Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB) campaign, today the team announced via X.
Schwindel, 31, played in MLB with the Kansas City Royals, Oakland A’s and Chicago Cubs, while Geraldo has suited up for the San Fransico Giants and Washinton Nationals organizations.
Schwindel, who hails from Livingston, N.J., hit .269 with 22 home runs, 79 RBI, 67 runs, 142 hits, 31 doubles, one triple and 35 walks in 145 MLB games.
The St. John’s University baseball alum spent the 2023 season in Japan with the Orix Buffaloes. He played in the Japan Western League and Japan Pacific League, totaling a .245 average with a homer, 21 RBI, eight runs, 26 hits and seven doubles in both associations.
Schwindel picked up a several accolades while with Kansas City’s farm system, including MiLB.com Organization All-Star honors in 2017 and 2018. A former 18th round pick in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft of the Royals, he also garnered Mid-Season All-Star awards in the Triple-A Pacific Coast League (2018), the Double-A Texas League (2016) and the Single-A South Atlantic League (2014).
Familiar with the Atlantic League, Geraldo played with the Lexington Legends/Counter Clocks (2022-23) and Gastonia Honey Hunters (2021), hitting .263 with 16 home runs, 96 RBI, 113 runs, 209 hits, 43 doubles, four triples, 41 stolen bases and 57 walks in three seasons in the (ALPB).
Geraldo, playing three infield positions, posted a .967 fielding percentage with both clubs.
The 27-year-old spent six seasons in affiliated minor league baseball with the San Francisco Giants (2014-19) and one with the Washington Nationals organizations, reaching as high as Double-A. Geraldo hit a combined .268 with 23 longballs, 263 RBI and 126 stolen bases in 596 contests.
Long Island kicks off the 2024 season with a home game against the Lancaster Stormers on Thursday, April 25th at 6:35 p.m.
