Former Staten Island FerryHawks (Atlantic League) infielder Drew Maggi today had his contract purchased by the Detroit Tigers organization, the FerryHawks announced via X.
Maggi, 35, batted .235 with three home runs, 15 RBI and eight walks in 29 games with Staten Island.
Last year, after 13 seasons in the minors, Maggi reached the Major Leagues with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He went 2-6 with an RBI and a run scored in three contests.
Additionally, Maggi played for Team Italy in the 2017 World Baseball Classic and the 2019 European Baseball Championship. He also suited up for the team at the Africa/Europe 2020 Olympic Qualification tournament in Italy in September 2019.
The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Maggi in the 47th round of the 2008 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Brophy College Preparatory (Phoenix, AZ), but he did not sign with the organization. However, the Pirates chose him in the 15th round of the 2010 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Arizona State University and played with the State College Spikes in the New York Penn League (NYPL).
