MCCC Hoops Welcomes Four Exciting Addition to the Program

Mercer County Community College (N.J./MCCC) Women’s basketball head coach Bob Fusik has announced that the school has signed Spanish guards Ariadne Acosta, Lia Sekhnishvili, and Xana Garcia Galen, and former New Jersey high schooler Jayla Jones, he wrote over the past two days via X.

A 5-foot-6 point guard, Acosta played with Spanish team Maresme.

Fusik is excited about the prospect of Acosta making up part of the Vikings’ backcourt along with Garcia Galen. He also pointed out that Acosta is a tenacious defender.

“She’s very good,” Fusik said. “She can do a little bit of everything: shoots very well from three, handles very well. Loves to push the ball, and she can really guard.”

MCCC will have two other Spanish players in the fold, as Sekhnishvili and Garcia Galen will be joining Acosta for the upcoming season. It is a solid Spanish hoops trio, indeed.

The 5-foot-9 Sekhnishvili suited up for Miles Community College, a national Junior College Athletic Assocation (NJCAA) D-1 program in Montana. She averaged 0.5 points per game in 14 contested played in limited court time during the 2023-24 campaign.

“All three young ladies from Spain all do the same thing,” Fusik noted.

In addition to the Spanish three, Jones, who played with Rancocas Valley (N.J.) last year, will suit up for the Vikings. She dropped in 112 points in 18 games during the 2023-24 season.

Fusik said he expects the program to compete and accomplish big things next season, as he continues to build a formidable roster.

The MCCC program has been on hiatus for two years but will be back in action for the 2024-2025 campaign. The Vikings are part of the NJCAA’s Region XIX conference.
