The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB) has announced on Friday that Gastonia left-handed pitcher Nick Horvath and Lancaster Stomers’ southpaw starter/reliever Max Green were named Co-Pitchers of the Month for July.
Horvath, 28, permitted just one run on three hits in 15.2 innings of work with a superb 0.57 ERA, which was the lowest for all Gastonia pitchers. Additionally, the reliever walked only five batters and struck out 18 in the month, posting a 1-0 record in the process.
Moreover, opponents batted just .064 against Horvath, who started the ALPB season with the Charleston Dirty Birds. The Jupiter, Fla., native is a combined 6-4 thus far this season.
The Baltimore Orioles selected Horvath in the 25th round of the 2018 MLB June Amateur Draft out of the University of Florida. Horvath, a former outfielder, has converted to pitching.
Meanwhile, Green posted a 2.93 ERA with five wins and 27 strikeouts in 30.2 frames in July. He has posted a 9-4 mark with a 4.58 ERA in 78.2 innings in 22 contests so far in his first independent league baseball campaign.
The Detroit Tigers picked the 28-year-old Torrance, Calif., native in the eighth round of the 2017 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Pepperdine University.
