Carson Benge’s Impressive Debut Propels St. Lucie Mets to Victory

Designated hitter Carson Benge, the New York Mets 2024 MLB Draft first round pick, had himself a productive day. He reached base four times after going 1-2 with three walks and two stolen bases in his professional debut with the Single-A St. Lucie Mets.

St. Lucie went on to win, 4-3, over the Daytona Tortugas (Cincinnati Reds) Wednesday night on the road at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Benge played baseball for Oklahoma State University. The 21-year-old former two-way player batted .335 with 18 home runs, 64 RBI, 49 bases on ball and 10 stole bases in 248 at bats in 61 contests this past season with the Cowboys.

First baseman/left fielder Yohairo Cuevas went 2-3, with two doubles, two RBI, a walk and a run scored. Righty pitcher Edgar Moreta tossed a career-high 5.2 innings, while striking out five and surrendering just a run.
