Class of 2024 St. Benedict’s Prep (N.J.) forward Maurice Vassel has committed to Division I University of Maryland Eastern Shore Men’s basketball program, an HBCU school, yesterday sports media outlets reported via X.
Additionally, the 6-foot-9, 160-pound Kingston, Jamaica, native held offers from the likes of St. John’s, Fordham, St. Bonaventure, Saint Peter’s, Rutgers, La Salle, Stony Brook, Texas A&M, among other D-1 college hoops programs, according to Verbalcommits.com.
Vassel scored 176 points, grabbed 145 rebounds and blocked 53 shots in 29 games played in the 2023-24 New Jersey boy’s high school campaign.
The Hawks put up a 9-20 overall mark and went 4-10 in Mid-East Athletic Conference (MEAC) action this past season.
