Catcher Austin Allen and shortstop Yolmer Sánchez combined for five hits and five runs in the Triple-A Syracuse Mets’ 9-6 victory over the Durham Bulls (59-65/Tampa Bay Rays) Friday night at NBT Bank Stadium.
Allen went 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Sanchez enjoyed a 3-4 performance with three RBI and a run scored for Syracuse (67-55).
Additionally, designated hitter and New York Mets’ third-rated prospect Drew Gilbert, 23, clubbed a three-run homer, that just wrapped around the rightfield foul pole for his second longball in three games, in the bottom of the third inning to put the Mets ahead, 4-3.
Starting pitcher Mike Vasil (7-8), New York’s 18th-ranked prospect, tossed a quality start after allowing three runs on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts in six innings of work, as he earned the win.
Reliever Matt Gage picked up his fifth save of the season after retiring the side in order in the top of the ninth.
Back-to-back jacks from first baseman Jonathan Aranda and third baseman Austin Shenton gave the Bulls an early 2-0 lead in the first frame.
