Brooklyn Cyclones’ D’Andre Smith, Junior Tilien Stop Dash in Its Tracks with 6-2 Win

Brooklyn Cyclones second baseman D’Andre Smith has been on fire during the month of August.

That torrid pace continued, as Smith smacked three hits, stole three bases, scored three runs and drove in a run, while third baseman Junior Tilien collected three RBI in the Cyclones’ 6-2 victory over the Winston-Salem Dash (Chicago White Sox/55-67) Wednesday night at Truist Stadium.

Right fielder Jefrey De Los Santos blooped a base hit to left that drove in Tilien for a 5-1 Brooklyn (New York Mets’ High-A affiliate) lead in the top of the seventh.

Left-handed pitcher Zach Thornton scattered four hits over 5.0 scoreless innings for the Cyclones (59-63), striking out three without permitting a walk. But he did not factor in the decision.

Ryan Ammons (3-0) pitched 2.1 frames and allowed a run on three hits while whiffing three batters to picked up the win.

Smith’s impressive August numbers are as follows: 324 (22-68), seven extra-base hits, 10 RBI, .485 slugging percent and .841 OPS, according to Brooklyn’s X account.

The Cyclones and the Dash return to the field tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Truist Stadium.
