The Triple-A Syracuse Mets (70-57) brought the lumber to the baseball party yesterday, clubbing the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Philadelphia Phillies/60-65), 13-6, last night at Coca-Cola Park.
Catcher Logan Porter rocketed a grand slam over the leftfield wall to cap a six-run inning in the top of the seventh.
Shortstop Yolmer Sánchez went 2-5 with three RBI and two runs scored, while designated hitter Carlos Cortes put up a 2-5 night with two RBI and a run scored.
Furst baseman Mike Brosseau reached base three times with two hits, a walk, an RBI and stolen base.
Centerfielder Drew Gilbert continues to display his raw power, drilling a moonshot into the rightfield pavilion, for his fifth dinger with Syracuse. That makes four home runs in Gilbert’s last eight games.
Starting pitcher Mike Vasil evened his record at 8-8 after given up two runs on four hits with two strikeouts in six innings of work.
