Today, the Staten Island FerryHawks of the Atlantic League have inked Shea Spitzbarth, a former Major Leaguer pitcher, to a contract. Tomorrow, he will start for the team against the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars at Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) Community Park.
Spitzbarth, 29, last pitched with the Rieleros de Aguascalientes of the Mexican League, going 2-0 with a 2.64 ERA in 30.2 innings of work in 30 game this season.
He logged five frames on the mound in five contests for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2021.
Spitzbarth, a Staten Island native, attended Molloy College and Moore Catholic High School.
