Right fielder Ryan Clifford went 2-4 with a home run, four RBI and a walk, and starting righty pitcher Nolan McLean tossed six scoreless innings with six strikeouts, as the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies (New York Mets/33-33, 68-65) shutout the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox), 9-0, Thursday night at Hadlock Field.
Clifford slugged his 19th longball of the season, while McLean improved his record to 4-10 on the year.
Shortstop Jeremiah Jackson launched his Eastern League-leading 19th homer, a two-run shot, of the season in top of the ninth to cap the game’s scoring.
Reliever Junior Santos struck out three batters and permitted just one bases-on-balls in two scoreless frames out of the bullpen. Josh Hejka pitched a perfect ninth inning with one punchout to out the finishing touches on the shutout of Portland (40-26, 76-59).
