Trent Maybin–the son of former Major League Baseball outfielder Cameron Maybin, who played 15 seasons in MLB–has verbally committed to the University of Texas baseball program, today he announced on X, formerly Twitter.
Maybin, a junior who manned the centerfield position at Asheville High School in Asheville, North Carolina, this past spring, was previously committed to Duke, per source.
Maybin’s defensive skills and speed in the outfield makes him one of the top college prospects in his class, according to scouts. Also, he has learned to layoff pitches out of the strike zone, allowing his smooth swing to produce more offensively.
The older Cameron played for both the New York Yankees (2019) and New York Mets (2021).
