Hun School, NY Rens’ Sage Mateo Earns Third D1 Hoops Offer from Columbia

Class of 2026 combo guard Sage Mateo of The Hun School of Princeton (N.J.) and NY Renaissance 16U EYBL has picked up an offer from Columbia Men’s basketball program, his third Division I offer in his recruitment, yesterday he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

In addition to the Lions’ offer, Mateo–who sports a 4.0 GPA–holds offers from Brown and Cornell, according to his X account. He has also heard from Harvard, Yale, William & Mary, Iona and Dartmouth.

While the 6-foot-3 outstanding student-athlete saw limited action with the Tigers last year, the junior came into his own this past AAU seasons with the Rens.

Mateo’s sweet outside shooting and ability to pass the rock to help setup his teammates for scoring opportunities helped gain the attention of college coaches.

Please check out Mateo’s July 2024 AAU Live Period highlights:

Columbia posted a 13-14 overall record and went 4-10 in Ivy League conference action in the 2023-24 campaign.
