New York Mets Offseason Moves: De Los Santos and Herget Under-the-Radar Moves, Plus More

Today, the New York Mets have claimed infielder Luis De Los Santos off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays, according to SNY. Additionally, the Mets have claimed pitcher Kevin Herget from the Milwaukee Brewers, per source.

The 6-foot-1, 160-pound De Los Santos–who offers versatility, as he played all infield positions–appeared in 13 contests with 29 at-bats in 2024.

The 26-year-old rookie provides the Mets with minor league organizational depth on the infield.

Herget, a Park Ridge, N.J., resident who graduated Kean University, has pitched in parts of three MLB campaigns with the Tampa Bay Rays, Cincinnati Reds, and most recently with the Brewers.

The 33-year-old posted a 1.59 ERA in 11.1 innings of work in seven games last year. .

In other news, team president David Stearns announced that New York’s entire coaching staff will return in 2025.

Plus, the Mets extended Pete Alonso a qualifying offer at $21.05 million for one year, which he will likely decline, as well as pitchers Luis Severino, who experienced a bounce back season with New York, and Sean Manaea, who has already hit free agency after enjoying a terrific season.

Pitcher Joey Lucchesi and DJ Stewart have elected free agency, while the Mets declined reliever Phil Maton’s $7.75 million option for 2025.
