Yankees Add J.C. Escarra to 40-Man Roster


The New York Yankees yesterday had announced that catcher/infielder J.C. Escarra has been added to their 40-man roster, per the Yankees AA affiliate, the Somerset Patriots.

Escarra, 29, batted .261 with 12 home runs and 64 RBI while slashing .355/.434/.789 in 426 at-bats in 124 games between stops with the AAA-Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and Somerset Patriots in the 2024 season

The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder played with the Toros De Tijuana and Union Laguna of the Mexican Baseball League, where he belted seven home runs and 24 RBI in 162 at-bats in 42 contests between both teams in the 2023 campaign.

Before that, the Cuban-American spent time with the independent Gastonia Honey Hunters in the Atlantic League, batting .348 with 15 longballs and 41 RBI, while slashing .423/.707/1.131 in 164 at-bats in 41 contests.

The New York Mets drafted Escarra in the 32nd round of the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Mater Academy Charter School in Hialeah, Florida, and again by the Baltimore Orioles in the 15th round of the 2017 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Florida International University in Miami, Florida.
