Baseball Digest has named New Yankee pitcher Luis Gil as its 2024 American League Rookie of the Year, today it announced via X, formerly known as Twitter.
Gil, 26, posted a 15-7 mark with a 3.50 ERA and 1.193 WHIP with 171 strikeouts in a 151.2 innings of work in 29 game starts this past season.
The Minnesota Twins signed Gil as an international free agent in February of 2015. Then, the Twins traded him to the Yankees for outfielder Jake Cave in March of 2018.
He spent a total of eight campaigns in the minor league and made his debut against the Baltimore Orioles on August 3rd, 2021, replacing ace starting pitcher Gerrit Cole, who tested positive for COVID-19.
