After remaining inactive for three long years, head coach Bob Fusik had Mercer County College (N.J.) Women’s basketball program firing on all cylinders and coming out of the gates in a big way, winning its first three games of the 2024-25 season.
Furthermore, the Vikings have achieved each victory by a nearly 34-point average over their opponents.
Let’s take a look how the action shook out.
Mercer County ended last week by routing Cecil College, 95-49, on the road Thursday night.
Sophomore Jada Queen, a Trenton Catholic Academy alum, led the offensive charge with 31 points. Sophomore Gabriella Ross and freshman Alexandra Garcia Galen added 16 points apiece and sophomore Lia Sekhniashvili contributed eight points and grabbed 10 boards in the win.
With a bit of home cooking on their side, the Vikings upended RCSJ-Gloucester, 92-67, in their home opener on Saturday, November 9th.
Ross, who attended Monsignor Donovan Catholic, drained 33 points and freshman Zaakirah Edwards contributed 18 points and six assists. The Spanish-born duo of Galen (13 pts. and seven assists) and Sekhniashvili (10 pts.) combined for 23 points and seven assists in the win.
To open its hoops campaign, Mercer destroyed host Harford Community College, 80-50, earlier in the month.
Galen poured in 25 points and made six steals and Queen had a double-double, with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Ross dropped in 18 points off the bench and Sekhniashvili added eight points and 11 boards.
Edwards had nine points and five helpers while sophomore Carla Cencerrero Gallego pulled down nine rebounds in the victory.
The Vikings will face a tough challenge, as they host No. fifth-ranked Union College (5-0) in a 5:00 PM game on Tuesday, November 19th.
