The New York Mets have reportedly acquired outfielder Jose Siri from the Tampa Bay Rays for right-handed pitcher Eric Orze, per sources. However, neither team has confirmed the deal.
Siri is considered a superb defender with 16 Outs Above Average last season. Offensively, the 29-year-old hit .187 with 18 home runs, 47 RBI, 50 runs scored and 14 stolen bases in 407 at-bats in 2024.
He will likely replace Harrison Bader in center field and platoon with Tyrone Taylor, who is recovering from multiple surgeries earlier this off-season.
Siri, who has three years of team control left, is arbitration-eligible for the first time this off-season.
The Mets selected Orze, a two-time cancer survivor, in the fifth round of the 2020 MLB Draft. The 27-year-old posted a 2.92 ERA across 43 appearances at Triple-A Syracuse this season but did not put up good numbers during his MLB time. He went 0-1 with 21.60 ERA in two contests.
