Morrisville Wins ECAC Bowl with Strong Offense and Defense Efforts

SUNY Morrisville College Mustangs used a combination of two quarterbacks — Christopher Stancarone and Logan Watson — to compile 167 yards and a touchdown, while its defense proved stingy en route to its 21-18 victory over the Stevenson University Mustangs Saturday in the East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Robert M. “Scotty” Whitelaw Bowl game at Drake Field in Morrisville, N.Y.

Stancarone completed all five of his pass attempts for 91 yards, throwing for one touchdown, and added a net 29 yards on three rushes, while Watson went 8-for-16 for 76 yards for Morrisville (7-4, 5-2).

Brooklyn’s Alex McBurnie, who attended James Madison High Schoolhad a team-high 52 yards on one reception, while sophomore wide receiver Connor Marriott pulled down three passes for 37 yards.

Sophomore tight end Quamel Jarvis added three catches for 30 yards and a touchdown, while sophomore wide receiver Joey Chirurgi caught four passes for 29 yards. Another sophomore wide receiver, Aidan McDonald pulled two receptions for 19 yards on the day.

While Morrisville’s offense played well, its defense limited Stevenson’s (5-6, 5-4) offense to 207 yards.

Junior defensive lineman David Kelley led the team with 10 tackles, with three and a half tackles for a loss of 18 yards, including a sack and half for 12 negative yards. He also forced a fumble and had a quarterback hurry on his way to earning the game’s Most Valuable Player Award.

Freshman linebacker Camerin Camacho contributed eight tackles, while sophomore linebacker Evan Salvaggio made seven stops, two of which went for a loss. Salvaggio also intercepted a pass and returned it 14 yards.
