Mets Acquire Righty Sean Harney from Tampa Bay

The New York Mets acquired right-handed pitcher Sean Harney from the Tampa Bay Rays for international bonus pool money, yesterday, according to the Rays organization.

The move for Harney will provide the Mets with more minor league depth in the arms department.

Harney posted a 3.54 ERA in 40 2/3 innings of work this past season. He struck out 35 batters, walked 13 and held hitters to a low .225 average.

He has produced a 3.90 ERA with 124 strikeouts and 44 walks across 124 2/3 innings in his two-year minor-league career. Of his 63 career appearances, 46 have come in relief.

Harney has reached as high as Double-A Montgomery in 2023 and ‘24.

Tampa selected the 26-year-old in the eighth round of the 2022 Major League Draft out of the University of Kentucky.
