The Oakland A’s yesterday have signed free agent infielder and former New York Yankee Gio Urshela to a one year, $2.15 million dollar contract with up to $400,000 in incentives, per sources.
The 33-year-old split time between the Detroit Tigers and Atlanta Braves in 2024 and combined to hit .250 with nine home runs, 19 doubles and 52 RBI in 128 games.
With a solid offensive lineup in place, with Brent Rooker, Lawrence Butler and Shea Langeliers, the A’s put a premium on defense in their search for a third baseman, which they received in Urshela, who posted grades above average at the hot corner last year.
With the Urshela addition, Oakland has added the second ex-Yankee this off-season with the signing of Luis Severino, who pitched well for the New York Mets last season.
